Press Release: January 11, 2013 San Francisco -
"Souza's Win Bronze" in San Francisco Chronicle's Annual Wine Competition. The 2009 Primitivo Zinfandel has won a Bronze Medal in the largest competition of American Wines in the World! Come out to the Winery and taste our newly released 2010 Primitivo Zinfandel. Could there be another medal in our future?
The wine Bob and Patty entered was released in February on Valentine's Day and because it is so young was really not considered a contender. The competition consisted of over 1400 entries from 21 states and 15 countries. They include France, Italy, Argentina, Australia, Japan, Mexico, Germany, Hungary, New Zealand, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Chile, Tasmania and Canada. The state standard included of course California, which produces 90% of all the wine in America.
When notified by founder and executive producer, Ludmila Montoya that their little town's vineyard had produced a medal winner in such a world class competition, even she seemed surprised, but very happy for them.
Since the Souza's began production in 2005 their wine has competed five times and won four metals including two bronze, one silver, and one gold. The future looks bright for the growing of fine wine grapes in Tehachapi, of course time will tell... but it appears that the conditions are ideal.
The largest competition of American wines in the world featured 4,235 total entries with the Zinfandel category having the largest number of entries. Judging took place over four days by 60 professional judges who had no knowledge of the wines they were testing other than their category.
We are very proud that our local wine was judged superior to several hundred other very established wineries. We sincerely wish to thank all of our friends and customers for their constant support and encouragement. The future looks bright and please stay tuned.
We have retained a very small amount of the 2005 release and are currently taking orders for a special commemorative and collectible bottle of our 2005 release. It comes in a beautiful cherry wood box with wine accessories (see photo below).
